Although it's one of the most popular marketplaces, there are downsides to buying from DHGate. The main problem is the speed and reliability of delivery to the United States – a big problem if you are using the site to find drop shippers for your own e-commerce store.
What is DHGate?
DHGate is not a wholesaler itself – it's a marketplace for Chinese manufacturers, wholesalers and drop shippers to sell their goods to the rest of the world, a lot like eBay is a marketplace for small retailers.
The main advantages of using DHGate, or similar sites like Ali Express, are that there's a very large range of products at low prices and most of the sellers are reliable and easy to deal with.
The Problem With DHGate
All that is great, but DHGate has one big problem as well – slow delivery to the rest of the world.
Shipping goods out of China is, thankfully, quite cheap now – in fact even many suppliers of very low priced goods (products under $5.00) will even offer free shipping.
But it's very slow shipping – taking anywhere from 15-30 days to reach the United States and even longer to most European countries. This makes it very difficult to work with drop shippers, and even wholesalers, on DHGate if you're based in such places – where consumers are used to much faster delivery.
